Jazz Is All That !

Press Release 7/18/07
Indianapolis –
Jazz is a true American art form. It’s roots include African work songs, slave spirituals, and rural blues that are all mixed together like jambalaya on Bourbon Street. To quote Sabra Logan the director of Iibada Dance Company, “Jazz is all that.” It sounds more like a statement made by an aging saxophonist as he reminisces with a kid on the front step of a building near Indiana Avenue. “I wanted to pay tribute to the jazz legends from Indiana and other parts of this country,” she said. “It’s important to pass on this heritage to the next generation before these names and stories are gone forever.” So Sabra combined her love for jazz and with her other passion, dance to create a story line for Iibada’s new show. She then enlisted the help of choreographers Roland Smith, Adrienne Jackson, Kristan Jackson, Andrea Jackson, and Charlie Lewis. The result is a captivating, rhythmic dance show titled Jazz Is All That. “This story is a running dialog between today’s youth and the older jazz generation. It’s interpreted through dance and sewn together with the narration of jazz legend Marry Moss.” Sabra said with pride. Each of the three nights features local jazz musicians playing during the show as well. We thought that would be a great time to showcase the local jazz performers.” Sabra said.
This is Iibada’s seventh staged production. It’s recommended that you buy tickets in advance. Iibada’s shows are known to sell out. They always combine the great story telling with the incredible skill of their young dancers ages 8 to 18. After seeing one of their performances understand why tickets are hard to come by.
Jazz Is All That is staged at the Warren Performing Arts Center August 3, 4 at 7:00 PM August 5 at 4:00PM. Tickets are $12.00 for Adults and children 12 and under are $8.00.
